Spamming the site with numerous pages containing links to downloading random nonsense.

User (account deleted) a relative newcomer to the site, started creating a bunch of pages containing links to download various ridiculous items not relating to the mainsite. After logging on and finding all that mess, I proceeded to ban the user and delete the pages. It was a gruelling task having to manually delete every single page.

All of the pages the user created followed a similar format to this link

Frankly I'm advocating for perma-ban. This person was 12 hours old and started spamming already. Clearly he has no intention of contributing. I asked around some people and they reckon he's probably a spambot, so nothing of value will be lost with his departure.

Ed edit: I had hoped for a long time that I would never have to use the major or minor user issues section of the forums, but I now I have to.

Ed edit: just noting here that user (account deleted) profile history has shown the same actions as user (account deleted) but on a different site. Keep an eye out on him. He could be a sockpuppeter.

Ed edit: Anyone else agree on perma-ban?

Ed edit: I think we should send them a private message as well detailing what their offences are.

Just noting here that a new member, user (account deleted) has also joined the site. His contributions to other sites mirrors that of both (account deleted) and the offender (account deleted). We should be on alert. Keep and eye on them.

And this shit happens in the busiest week of school. As administrator, I move for block and ban. Ed, check their recent contributions, posts, and site memberships and relay it here. Also, can I look at some of the offending pages?

Cadit: I see disrofila and nubbsnava are members and atmemifi isn't anymore. If this is the worst case scenario, perma-ban. I have a hair trigger for the flagging as abusive button, and Wikidot doesn't like spam. Do not contact, they're obvious spammers.

Cadit: Better add compehrtora to the kill list.Same pattern.

Update: I am using my administrative fiat to permanently ban (account deleted), (account deleted) and (account deleted) from the site. They have also been blocked from the site. If I see that there are possible sockpuppets, I will go over them on a case-by-case basis.

Are you sure this is a right decision? It seems a bit rash to ban people whom haven't really done anything yet on our site. I mean they may be sockpuppets but we don't really have conclusive evidence on that.

I banned atmemifi because I found evidence of his spam on our site. and the level of it was atrocious. The other users haven't exhibited such behaviour yet here. Although they display the same actions as the offender, I would advise keeping an eye on them rather than go ban-hammer happy.

We can't be for certain that they are all the same people they could be a bunch of friends who do this "for the lulz¹"

However this is just my viewpoint on the matter, if you have input I'm happy to hear them. It just seems a bit rash to me to ban them like this.

Ed edit: I was almost about to start sending them a wikidot PM you know the usual formalities but I'll wait.

Given the typical nature of these people, the evidence against them, and the recent events, it's good to have an edge on being genre-savvy and prevent the damage before it happens. It really isn't a coincidence that three or so users with a history of joining spam-sites and spamming joined the wiki in quick succession.

I stand by my decision.

That being said however, I feel that we should append the procedures for dealing with users in our site protocols. It's time we brushed it up to date.
